Thanks to all of you who have bought these lovely ponies & plates since this website debuted.
In the 1940s England's already venerable Beswick Pottery began making a series of horses, ponies, and foals based on living ideals of various British breeds that quickly became known for their artistry, shading, and - most important to collectors who knew horses - that were correct in every detail of conformation and breed type. These affordable pieces of art quickly gained a loyal following that over time has grown into a huge number of avid collectors worldwide. The expressiveness and beauty of these figures hasn't diminished with age, & with reasonable care will give pleasure to collectors for years to come.
From 1961 to 1985 a series celebrating Britain's Mountain and Moorland ponies was developed by designer Arthur Gredington with consultation from famed horseman Stanislas Lynch which still show a rare level of realism & craftsmanship. When Royal Doulton took over the Beswick business, some of these molds were maintained, but most were retired. As a result, these ponies, now vintage and highly desirable, have gained enormously in value among pony lovers and collectors alike. Each has the ability to anchor a collection. Individually or as a group, they are a stunning tribute to these native breeds.
