Why Beswick Pottery Horses & Ponies?

In the 1940’s England’s already venerable Beswick Pottery began making a series of horses, ponies, and foals based on living ideals of various British breeds that quickly became known for their artistry, shading, and - most important to collectors who knew horses - correct in every detail of conformation and breed type. These affordable pieces of art quickly gained a loyal following that over time has grown into a huge number of avid collectors worldwide.

From 1961 to 1985 a Mountain and Moorland series was developed by designer Arthur Gredington that still show a level of craftsmanship that is very difficult to find now. When Royal Doulton took over the Beswick business, some of these molds were maintained, but most were retired. As a result, these ponies, now vintage and growing more rare by the day, have gained enormously in value among pony lovers and collectors alike.

	All of Epona’s Pasture ponies are guaranteed to be ‘serviceably sound’, but you should expect them to show signs of age - the odd chip or small scratch, a restored leg, etc. They are between 25 & 50 years old, after all. I do try to describe each pony as accurately as I possibly can. They are priced according to condition & always below list. Each carries the oval or round ‘Beswick England’ stamp, and (when appropriate) their breed name (see photo). They will look lovely wherever you put them, for many years (I got my first in 1962!). And they won’t eat you out of house and home! Check in often! You never know who might be grazing in Epona’s Pasture.
